We had our first Community Service Sunday (the 4th Sunday of every month) today (Sept 30) . We wrote postcards urging people to get out and vote this November. The brunch consisted of French omelets and quesadillas.
Sunday Service to the Community will be stuffing hygiene kits for the Association for Prevention of Family Violence.

October Theme: Non-Violence
Oct 21 – Service – Darwin and His ‘Dangerous Idea’
Visiting Guest Speaker: Jane Shoup*
We will consider the extraordinary life and voyage of Charles Darwin, his confirmation of the fact of evolution and his painstaking development of the explanatory theory of natural selection. Emphasis will be on Darwin’s dedication to rational principles of scientific inquiry and his attendant loss of faith in Christian doctrine. His Origin of Species – he called it “my abominable volume” - is arguably history’s most influential book. Yet even today, despite ever-accumulating evidence confirming his work, the theory of evolution by natural selection remains under relentless attack. As UUs, dedicated to a “free and reasonable search for truth and meaning”, we are obliged to reject the notion of human exceptionalism so prevalent in our notions of unending growth and inevitable progress.
